In my old neighborhood it was very normal to hear a group of women say in poor spanish “se fue pa’ la yusa (he just left for the USA).” I heard this phrase hundreds of times while growing up. From painters, to bricklayers, to thirteen year old kids that only knew how to be brave with out any magical powers, but still decided to take the ubelievable journey. They would confront hunger, powerful currents, extreme exhaustion, and in some cases even death simply because Papa and Mama could not make enough money to feed the eight children in the family or because their son had no shoes to go to school, or because it was impossible to find a job. All they saw on TV was beautiful New York with their Empire State Building, the Chrysler Building or many other amazing places like Disney World, without really realizing what lies before them.
Some of the people with the biggest hearts on eath only come with one clear purpose and dream; to give to others. They come believing and thinking that they are ready for anything that comes their way but they are not. They are not ready for rejection because of misunderstandings, confronting extreme cultural shocks, new languages and rascism. They only come looking for better opportunities.
When I said that they come without any magic or powers I mean that many come with very low levels of education or none at all. Now I ask do you think they comprehend erudite law?
